::Injury/Disability

Disability Fund:

Purpose:  To provide income for Ministers and career Missionaries who while in active service become totally disabled.

Participants: All ministers licensed by the Evangelical Congregational Church whose employing Church/Conference/Board/Commission or Agency remits the annual premium for each assigned pastor to the Benefits Corporation by January 15th of each year.

Plan Management: will be the Board of Trustees of the Benefits Corporation, who oversee the investment and disbursement of funds from this self-funded income fund.

Procedure: Written application forms are provided by the Board of Trustees of the Benefits Corporation. The completed application is then reviewed by the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees for further information or approval. If approved, disbursement of benefits begins on the 61st day of total disability, based on 70% of income at the time disability occurs. [See Benefits Corporation By-Laws Section IX.B.5.b. for complete disbursement rules.]

Worker's Compensation:

  • Coverage is required for all employees of local churches and the National Conference
  • Worker's Compensation insures employees for the loss of wages and payment of medical expenses due to a work-related injury
  • Coverage will be adminsitered through the Benefits Corporation in those states which mandate worker's compensation insurance coverage for employees.
  • Churches opting not to participate in the denomination plan or located in states which do not mandate worker's compensation insurance, verification of coverage for their pastoral and church staff is required annually to the Business Office.
